Psychic Junkies

I don't usually read the New York Times these days but I happened to pick it up this weekend. There was a great article there about a woman who used to be "a psychic junkie" not too long ago. At the worst point in her habit, she was spending about $1,000 per month on online and telephone psychic readings.

Her name is Sarah Lassez and she has since written a book, "Psychic Junkie: A Memoir" to help others who find themselves in the same boat. The book will be available in July. She's also set up a website and online support group.

Personally, I've gone to about three or four psychic readings over the years. In each case I went when I was under relationship or job stress (and in the midst of very heavy-duty transits). I've also seen three astrologers for personal readings and one of them became my trusted astrologer who I visited at least five times over a few years. Aside from her expertise in astrology, this woman also seemed to have strongly developed psychic skills. Unfortunately she retired a few years ago due to bad health.

I didn't happen to have a great personal experience with any of the three psychics I went to. I thought they were kind of scammy and I didn't get the sense they had special skills. But I found the astrology readings really helpful and fun on some level. I thought I got my money's worth there.

I would imagine that this business of online readings has become a rapidly growing problem in the last few years. There are so many online phone-in psychic and astrology reading sites that it must be a booming business. I would guess that many of these venues are scams and prey on people in distress.

What has been people's experience out there?

I was also a psychic junkie. The "readers" at the online sites do indeed prey on people in distress. I was at such a low point when I went to one for the first time. These people seem to understand what you are going through, at least while your money lasts.

Many of the people giving readings on these sites are the lowest of the low out there. They can literally ruin the lives of vulnerable people. I know several people who went down very sad roads due to the online psychic sites.

Something really needs to be done to put those sites out of business and help the ones ruined by them

Thanks so much for your comment. I agree that it's a growing problem and something needs to be done.

I'm not feeling very good about posting the automated ads here because some of them lead to these phone psychic sites. Do people think I should remove the ads altogether?

I can relate. I was and still am a psychic junkie. Instead of spending money on one time deals, though, I took some classes on psychic awareness. They were cheaper in the long run and much more empowering. Now if I want a reading I can do it myself, knowing that only my highest and best interest is served.

Hi Moira,

It is "anonymous" from before. I just found my way back! I personally would never have a banner ad on my site that led to a phone or online psychic service. That is how I got hooked.

It really is a horrible problem. People need to be educated on what to expect from readings and readers. I could go on but I think you understand. :)

You know I am a psychic and I feel that being a psychic junkie is a personal problem. If someone is in distress and they to a psychic no on is making them go there. If someone calls me everyday I ask them to stop, because it confuses my reading and it is unhealthy I have even blocked clients that call to much, because it is doing a disservice to me and then if I keep helping them be distructive, but I still don't understand how it is the psychics fault because you can't stop calling. I would say it is feeding a greater need to be accepted and that you want someone to tell you the future because you fear it. In times of distress you can muddle up a reading! We read energy and if yours is funky it messes it all up. I give my clients homework to get out of the funk and don't call me back until you do the homework. If you don't do it your not ready for a reading. Period. But shutting down psychics is like shutting down casinos. I say be responsible for your own well being, because it is not ones responsiblity but yours. Yes I got to psychics to and believe me a good one can take years to find and now that I have found 2 I use them once a year. Remember if your a addict "junkie" as you call it, then it doesn't matter if it is psychics or gambling your have an addictive personality and you need professional help for that.

Well there has been a lot of new psychic talents out there and there are also lots of new psychic services given out. The good thing about this is that when you think you have a new psychic talent, there are people out there who are ready to help you out and teach you to develop those talents more

I'm really keen to speak to people who are addicted to psychic readings. I am currently researching the topic as part of a documentary.

It would be great to hear from anyone who is struggling with this addiction and to hear your thoughts on psychic callings. My email address is emma.wilkinson@itn.co.uk - please do get in touch if you think this is something you'd be happy to talk to me about.

Kindest Regards,

Emma

I thought this email of free help may help some people, please feel free to forward to anyone you feel needs help.

** Extract from Email Received from ITN **

ITN, the UK’s biggest commercial news provider is researching a documentary for US television looking at the growing phenomena of people becoming dependent on financially crippling psychic hotlines.

As you are probably aware, Rosemary the Celtic Lady "Founder of the American Assocation of Psychics" has always fiercely campaigned against such hotline centers and supports this project whole heartedly.

With help and advice from the world’s top psychics, therapists and recovering “psychic hotline junkies” alike, this television special aims to explore the very latest methods of treatment and therapy (both alternative and traditional) to put people back on the road to recovery towards a fulfilling spiritual life.

We are looking for people in the USA who believe they would benefit from this treatment to participate in the documentary. The filming will take place between mid August and early September, and will involve small-scale one-on-one interviews and therapy. If you are worried that you are a “psychic hotline junkies” or are concerned about someone else who might be, then I’d love to hear from you.

Email me at rebecca.mills@itn.co.uk and myself or one of our small team will get in touch for a confidential, obligation free chat where we will be happy to go into further detail for you.

Many Thanks for taking the time to read this… any and all help will be gratefully received.

Best Wishes,

Rebecca Mills

I paid a shop, at another address. He told me 6 days for results. He said I will see changes as soon as he gets the items, well, haven't seen anything yet. I am still wondering about the results and him telling me different things. Please email at devilsvette@hotmail.com to discuss this further.

It depends if you need the psychic energy or not. Some people have a greater demand than others.
